Getting There!!

Well, I orginally decided to start a blog last September, probably not the best time to start when your business relies so heavily on Christmas orders.  Anyway now I will start in earnest!

The problem with running a small home based business is you try to be everything to everybody, you rarely have the time or insight to take a step back at look at the “big picture” (apologies for sounding horrendously corporate, it won’t happen again). Having run Glenroyd Organics now for over 3 years I have finally realised that being small isn’t something to be ashamed of.  It can be frustrating at times, exhausting, worrying but overall overwhelmingly rewarding when someone takes the time to ring or write to you to tell you how much they enjoyed their pot of marmalade or chutney, it is a wonderful feeling.

Hello world!

It was the delivery of a weekly organic fruit and vegetable box that changed the way I thought about food, the taste, the quality. I always seemed to be left with a solitary apple or onion which in turn inspired me to begin a new hobby of jam and chutney making.

I gave up the rat race in Jan 2007 and stopped the commute up and down the M1 to concentrate on developing a business out of that hobby. Naive and foolish as it may sound, there have certainly been mistakes, triumphs and an awful lot of soul searching along the way.
